Every school-age child in the Ottawa region will receive the opportunity to redeem a complimentary ticket to Canada’s Women’s Rugby Team’s match against New Zealand on July 8, 2023, at TD Place in Ottawa.

Rugby Canada’s mission is to ensure that children and youth have access to this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to watch Canada take on the six-time, reigning World Champions, the New Zealand Black Ferns.

Principals and administrators from schools in Ottawa will be distributing information to students and parents this week on how to redeem a free child’s ticket with the purchase of one ticket for an accompanying parent or adult. This offer will be open until Sunday June 4.

“We recognize that hosting this first-rate international fixture is an incredible opportunity to inspire the next generation of rugby players and excite children and youth about sport and physical activity,” said Ryan Jones, Rugby Development Manager, Rugby Canada. “Not only can this inspire children to start rugby, but it gives them access to exceptional role models who embody what it means to be inclusive, work as a team, and strive to be the best they can be. Rugby really is a sport for all, and we aim to make this exciting match-up between two of the best teams in the world truly accessible.”

“Our team is very excited about this initiative. There’s no better feeling than playing in front of a home crowd, and we can’t wait to help bring the sport we love into the lives of Ottawa’s children and youth,” said Sophie de Goede, captain of Canada’s Women’s Rugby Team. “Representation matters, and I know that many of us wish that we had an opportunity like this when we were kids. The atmosphere at TD Place on July 8 is going to be incredible.”

The match day experience at TD Place on July 8 will begin with a free rugby festival for kids under the age of 12 designed to introduce them to the sport in a safe and fun environment. In addition to the marquee match-up between Canada and New Zealand, tickets will also include entry to a curtain raiser match featuring the Canadian and American U20 women’s teams, as well as the Pacific Four Series Australia versus USA game.

Tickets for July 8, as well as Canada versus Australia on July 14, start at just $20, and can be purchased at rugby.ca/en/tickets.
